What is Feed-Burning???

What in the world does feed burning means? I’ve read and tried to understand but I can’t grasp the whole concept of burning feeds. Then, why do we need to burn feeds each time we update? It’s all so horribly confusing. I think I need to read it up about 100 times then only I can really understand the whole thing. Or is there any kind soul who would care to explain it all to me? If nobody’s willing, it’s fine by me. Wish me luck!

Feedburning refers to the Feedburner site where you give more functionality to your blog's feed without the hassle of actually coding it yourself.

A few reasons why people would want to use feedburner services is for:

1. Show stats to see how many people are subscribed to your feeds.

2. Convert your feed to a universal format. There are several different kinds of feed formats (eg. RSS 0.92, RSS 2.0, Atom 1.0). Some people might have certain preferences to one kind of feed to another. There is a service in feedburner that makes this universal or even convert one format to another.

3. Add new things to your feeds. By default your feed only contains your post. You can add more links to your feeds with feedburner like emailing you, a digg this button how many people commented...etc.

4. Popularize their blog via Feeds. Feedburner has another service that allows you to put widgets on your signitures that show updated feed contents. Nifty if you want to popularize your blog.

Those are just a few things that Feedburner has. If you want to know more. I can explain in person if you like. :)

WOW! Thanks a lot, Edrei for the explanation. Really, thank you. Now, at least I get a better idea of what it does and how it'll help my blog.

Oh, no need to trouble yourself to explain to me in person. Thanks! =)

By the way, do you own a blog?

Read this for more explanation. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Web_feed

I see that you already have feedburner widgit whereby I can subscribe to your feed. You can use aggregators to read feeds of other people including mine:

Edrei here. I forgot that I signed in with my Google account rather than my old Blogger account. My blog should be linked to this account though. It gets confusing sometimes. I really should have both accounts just to be sure. :)
