Movie Review: The Other Boleyn Girl

This might not be a good review of The Other Boleyn Girl as I don’t think I understood all the parts in the movie. I have to watch it again. I know that it’s based on Philippa Gregory’s book and it’s about King Henry VIII (Eric Bana) and his wives, etc. So, it sounds like a very interesting movie to me and it really was.

It kind of blew me away. Well, that’s exaggerating but I wonder if the story is based on the real story or not. I’ll have to check that out. (Just checked and yeah, it’s based on the real one!) But, in the movie, King Henry is portrayed as a weak man, who only wants to sleep with different women. Pity his wife, the Queen. He even had to divorce her so that he can sleep with Anne Boleyn (Natalie Portman)!

All right, there are two sisters, Anne and Mary Boleyn (Scarlett Johansson). Mary is already married but then the King has taken a fancy to her and she’s supposed to live in court where he can be with her. This made Anne jealous because she’s the one who’s supposed to be the King’s mistress.

Anyway, Mary gave birth to a baby boy, something the King wants because he needs a male heir. But, at that time, he’s already fallen in love with Anne, and he just ignores Mary and her newborn son. Anne doesn’t want to give herself to him yet, until she becomes the Queen of England, which she becomes eventually.

After that, things go awry for her. She can’t bear the King a son and she starts to panic. When things become bad, she pleaded with her brother to do something for her, something which will cost him his life if it was found out.

The Other Boleyn Girl is a dramatic story/movie. Because of the Anne and Mary’s uncle and father’s greed and silliness, their lives are ruined. Ooh, I really have to read the book!

Movie Review: 27 Dresses

I watched 27 Dresses and The Other Boleyn Girl! I will review 27 Dresses now.

Katherine Heigl plays Jane, who is hopelessly in love with her boss, without him knowing about it, of course. I knew Heigl from the Roswell series and she’s absolutely beautiful and funny, so I guess 27 Dresses would be worth watching. Well, parts of it, actually. I like Judy Greer’s character, too. She’s entertaining.

Anyway, back to Jane. Jane loves weddings and she is sincere in helping brides on their wedding day. She makes sure that everything goes smoothly during the wedding so it’ll definitely be a happy day for the newly-weds.

At one wedding, a reporter, Kevin/Malcolm notices Jane leaving the wedding in a taxi and starts changing in the taxi too. Truth is, Jane is attending two weddings at the same time! It’s unbelievable at how she does it but in the end, she must be quite exhausted that she passed out at one of the weddings. That’s when she first talked to Kevin/Malcolm.

I write Kevin/Malcolm because he uses both names in the movie. He tells Jane his name is Kevin Doyle when he’s actually Malcolm Doyle. By the way, Jane hates him. But if she hates him, why would she wear all her 27 bridesmaid dresses and parade in front of him? That’s when he takes pictures of her and puts them to good use.

Oh, I forgot about Tess, Jane’s younger sister. Tess catches the eye of Jane’s boss and to Jane’s fury and agony, they plan to get married! Life for her is just falling apart. It’s quite pitiful for her since the man she loves is in love with her little sister. Well, she didn’t tell him about her feelings in the first place, so it’s not anyone’s fault except hers.

All the same, 27 Dresses is pretty worth your ticket money. Girls can enjoy drooling over James Marsden and do watch out for Jane’s friend’s role played by Judy Greer!

Movie Review: Little Man

I watched Little Man last night. I saw the preview a long time ago but just didn't watch the movie yet. It was funny, the preview. Luckily, my sis has the DVD so I popped it into the DVD player last night. Wanted to rewind you know. All assignments are done and already handed in and I really needed to relax!

Anyway, like my title, Little Man wasn't as nice and funny as White Chicks. Little Man was quite a flop for me, unfortunately, though there are some funny moments. There are some illogical parts too. In fact, the whole movie is illogical. The 'baby' is not cute at all. Okay, the baby is downright ugly. It's mind-boggling as to how the family can take the baby in. It's out of kindness. Well, they must be really, really the kindest people ever to take in such a baby!

Plus, the baby does weird stuff like sticking his tongue in the woman's mouth when she, one of his new parents' friends, kissed him goodbye. Naturally, she freaked out. Actually, this 'baby' is just trouble!

The story is that he's pretending to be a baby. He's actually a 40-year-old guy and he's just been released from jail. Then, he's out to rob a jewellery store and hid a diamond he stole into a woman's bag because that time the police were coming. After that, he had to pretend to be a little baby in her house so he can get the diamond back.

Oh, I've just installed the latest version of Windows Live Messenger version 2008. What are the special features for this version? Well, I guess there are some extra add-ons that might be useful for me like the Mail thing and the Start Writer. I have to figure out how it works later.

Sunday, Sunday, Sunday.

Lifehouse Is Back!

Hmmm....I wonder if their latest album, Who We Are, are in local music stores or not! No, I'm not planning to buy the pirated version. I am going to go original! Yeah! Lifehouse is a great band, in my opinion. One of the best rock bands around. Well, they are more pop rock actually. And Jason Wade is soooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo gorgeous! I sound like a teeny-bopper now, don't I? Haha! Please raise your hands and scream 'Lifehouse rocks' if you agree with me on how good-looking Wade is.

Okay, I've only downloaded their songs from the Internet and I love 'Broken'. I love the tune, especially the chorus part. And I am already familiar with 'First Time'. That's a catchy song. It sounds almost pop! I'd prefer if their songs were more like 'Hanging By A Moment', but you can't have too many songs that sound almost the same right? It would be awfully boring!

The next song that I've heard from this album is 'Whatever It Takes'. It's an okay song for me...I still prefer 'Broken'. Well, it's sad that I've only heard 3 songs from their latest album. 3 songs??? And I call myself a fan? Pathetic!

Movie Review: Click

I’ve always enjoyed Adam Sandler’s movies so I looked forward to enjoying a funny movie when I put the ‘Click’ DVD into the DVD player. Guess what happened when the movie finished? I ended up crying instead of laughing! Was that so weird or what?

I told my friend that it’s such a sad movie and he retaliated by saying, ‘It’s not sad! It’s funny and well, there are some sad parts. But that’s all!’ Anyway, I cried during the scene where Michael’s (Adam Sandler) father went into the office to talk to him but Michael just ignored him and his son completely. At that time, Michael was visiting his past via his universal remote control. At Michael’s present time, his dad has already passed on and that’s why it was quite an emotional scene for me.

Well anyway, the movie’s about Michael Newman who works way too hard and frequently ignores his family. One day, he got a universal remote control for free. Beware of free stuff, I tell ya. So, with this remote control, Michael gets to skip parts of his life that he doesn’t want to be a part of. For example, when his wife is nagging or talking to him, he’ll press ‘Mute’ on the control so he wouldn’t hear anything. Or if he doesn’t want to have dinner with his family and his parents, he just clicks ‘Fast Forward’ and he finds himself in the future already without him having to actually live through the family dinner, if you know what I mean.

Hmm…it’s kind of complicated to explain this movie but you do get the general idea right? Michael’s remote control is out of this world but it’s dangerous. He depends on his remote control until he couldn’t control his life any longer. He’s brought way too far into the future. He missed his dad’s funeral. His relationship with his wife deteriorated too, as expected.

This is a good movie for people who are like workaholics. Or if you haven’t been home to visit your parents in a while. It made me realize how precious time is. Every moment spent with my family is precious. That’s something for you to think about too.

It's All So Complicated!

How would you define love? L-O-V-E.

What's love anyway?

You know, I'm really amazed at the old couples whom I see at the mall, the market, crossing the road, etc. How do they stay together for so long? It's even sweeter if they are holding hands when crossing the road, for example. I smile to myself when I see them. Then, I think if I'll ever have someone's hand to hold when I'm old myself. Truly, it's amazing.

What's their secret? How can they live with each other for so many years? I'm sure there are some fights here and there but they do make up, don't they? However, these days, divorce seems to be the only answer when the husband and wife fight. Why do they fight in the first place? Are they sick of each other? Are they bored of each other already? What's missing in their marriage?

Why am I writing this post? Well, I'm just thinking over about my relationship with my guy. We've been together for more than 2 years. But now I feel something different. I don't feel the love that he's always shown me last time. Are we falling apart or am I just being plain paranoid? I can't sleep thinking about this.

I know I shouldn't waste too much time pondering over this. Studies first, studies first, studies first, I keep telling myself. But, honestly, it's difficult!!!

Anonymous Donor

If you had opened the Yahoo main page today, you may have read this piece of news. Very, very interesting!

Japan police receive 400th secret pledge to poor after 33 years

Who do you think the donor could be? Why has he/she been donating money for 33 years??? The donor must be very rich or maybe the donor just felt that it's the right thing to do to donate money for the needy. It's very mysterious.

However, isn't it better to donate money quietly and not put on a big show? Well, some people like to donate without telling the whole world while some had to share the big news that they are doing something good. Whatever it is, the act of donating had better come right from the heart. No use donating grudgingly. So not cool.

When was the last time that you had donated anything for anything? Was it the 20 cents coin you dropped in a tin on Flag Day? I know that some of you may be wary that your money might not reach the needy but instead end up in some undeserving person's pocket. Truth is, we'll never know.

'Everyone' Celebrates Xmas Now?

I noticed in Friendster, people were wishing people who weren't Christians 'Merry Christmas'. Actually, they were wishing one another. Christmas has become something like Happy New Year, where it's not limited to a particular race or religion.

It's funny really. Christmas has become so commercialized. It's not a sacred celebration among the Christians anymore. The reason for celebrating Christmas has changed. It's no longer to commemorate the birth of Jesus, it's become something else, I don't know what.

Now, everyone celebrates everything. Suddenly, everyone is celebrating Hari Raya, Deepavali, Chinese New year and Christmas. They might just not go to work a few days before the celebrations. Their excuse would be, 'Oh, few more days Deepavali already.' And they are not even Hindus! Maybe they want to celebrate together too.

In this rat race world where more and more people are working harder to reach their life goals or whatever, so I guess any celebration would be their excuse to just relax for a while. Maybe. =/

How was the Prosperity Burger?

What to eat for dinner today? I thought earlier. Food is quite a problem for me. Now that I'm not staying at home, I have to worry about where to get my food from. No more mom's home-cooked food. No more not having to worry about where to get my next meal.

There are many food shops near my uni but I have to walk there. Car park's a problem so I can't park anywhere near those shops. If I feel hardworking, then only I'll take the trouble to walk all the way to the chinese restaurant where they sell fried rice, economy rice, normal Chinese food that ain't spicy! I can't stand to eat nasi kandar and roti canai everyday! Only once in while, like once a week.

So, I ate at McDonald's today with my friends. I decided to order something which is not my usual McChicken meal with fries and Coke. Today, I ordered the Beef Prosperity Burger meal. The set includes the burger, twister fries or fries twisters, and green tea. The cashier asked me in an overly-concerned, slow kind of way, 'Do you want green tea?' It's as if she didn't like the green tea herself! Anyway, I was in the mood for orange juice so I changed my drink.

Wow, the burger was SPICY with all its black pepper sauce! I've always liked black pepper as in black pepper chicken but this black pepper sauce was utterly...spicy. =) After a few bites, I quickly got hold of my orange juice and drank to cool my mouth down.

All in all, the burger was quite nice. I remember eating it many years ago and liked it, that's why I decided to eat it again. It only comes once a year, before Chinese New Year. Unfortunately, not everyone likes it. Haha! Read this post by Shannelicious.
